Quick Take

  • Coinbase’s Base App said users may have seen a change in their account balance.
  • The announcement came in the wake of an Amazon Web Services outage, which created issues for users of MetaMask and Coinbase.

Coinbase's Base App took to social media on Monday to alert users of the app, currently in beta, that they may have seen changes to their account balances.

"This isn't because any funds were lost, but instead due to a change in how content coin values are displayed. Before today, coins with no trades showed a value, even though that value wasn't claimable," Base said in a post to X. "Now, if a coin hasn’t been traded yet, it’ll show as 0 until someone buys or sells it so your portfolio reflects real market value."

Base's announcement came in the wake of an Amazon Web Services outage, which created issues for users of other crypto apps like MetaMask and Coinbase. Early Monday, AWS said the issue that caused the mConass outage had been "fully mitigated,” according to a report.

In July, Coinbase introduced Base App, which involved rebranding its Coinbase Wallet as an "everything app" that combines social networking, mini-apps, chat, payments, and trading.

Base App didn't mention the AWS outage in its post, but said what happened is normal given the circumstances.

"This is part of testing and learning during the beta, making the app more accurate with every update," Base said.
