The sale is valued at over $9 billion based on current market prices.

Galaxy noted that the sale represents “one of the earliest and most significant exits from the digital asset market. The transaction was part of the investor's broader estate planning strategy.”

A significant amount of old bitcoin has moved in recent weeks, including one bitcoin whale moved $1.26 billion worth of BTC after years of dormancy. Even earlier, a Satoshi-era bitcoin whale moved over 80,000 BTC, worth over $9.5 billion.
