Global data giant CB Insights has acquired Blockdata, the Netherlands-based blockchain intelligence firm, for an undisclosed sum.

As part of the deal announced Wednesday, New York-based CB Insights will open an office in Amsterdam, and Blockdata will remain a standalone product with its own team. Blockdata’s work will also be available to CB Insights clients.

Anand Sanwal, co-founder and CEO of CB Insights, said client activity around blockchain has increased "dramatically" in the last eight months. “It’s gone from something that was considered possible or probable to something that is now practical," said Sanwal.

"As clients think about how to employ blockchain technology to drive growth or improve operations, we’re excited to equip them with the intelligence they need to make decisions more quickly and confidently,” Sanwal added.

Blockdata was founded in 2018 and raised €200,000 (around $237,000) at the time. It is not clear whether the firm raised more funds since then. Blockdata operates as a six-member team, according to its LinkedIn page.

This is CB Insights' first acquisition following its July 2020 purchase of Dow Jones' VentureSource assets.
