UNICEF grants $100,000 to blockchain startups working "to create a better world"

UNICEF, the UN's children's charity, is the latest in a swathe of government institutions experimenting with blockchain solutions by funding six startups using the technology. The organization announced Monday that its Innovation fund would split £100,000 between the nominated groups, who are based in countries from Argentina to India and are designing personal-finance and healthcare solutions. Statwig, for instance, is working to improve vaccine delivery using a supply chain management tool. The projects are due to produce open-source prototypes over the next 12 months.

UNICEF already offers funding and administrative support to 20 other tech startups, believing in the power of innovation to alleviate key social challenges and help "vulnerable populations," explained its principal advisor Chris Fabian. (Source: Coindesk)
