Square Crypto, the crypto initiative of payments company Square, has announced its first hire. The company has brought on Steve Lee, a former director of Google. Lee's role at Square Crypto is to be announced. At Google, Lee led product management for mobile applications, Google maps, and Google's location platform. Lee was also one of the co-founders of Google Glass. Lee was most recently a product manager at Bitcoin Optech, a group dedicated to bringing "open source technologies and techniques to Bitcoin-using businesses."

The Square Crypto initiative was first announced in March. The firm will work towards building out the nascent bitcoin and crypto ecosystem, separate from Square's own business interests in the market.
