The State Bank of Pakistan has shared its plans to start issuing a digital currency by 2025 in an effort to “promote financial inclusion and reduce inefficiency and corruption,” the country's flagship English-language newspaper Dawn reports.

It is also proposing to introduce full digitalisation of the central bank by 2030 to promote transparency, according to Finance Minister Asad Umar. “It is our government’s policy to encourage the use of e-commerce,” he added.
